Introduction

Welcome to Peer-to-Peer Networking Guide for Beginners. I really wanted to call this P2P for Idiots, but I guess that would be a copyright infringement of some sort. The purpose of this web is to explain the fundamentals of setting up a peer-to-peer networking, including:

Peer-to-peer LAN
Windows and LAN protocols
TCP/IP
NetBEUI
File and Printer Sharing
Windows, MAC and Linux

Why would I want to set-up a P2P LAN in the first place?

Most likely, you will want to set up a P2P LAN in your home or small office. If you are a part of a school system you most likely will need a larger network and will hire a technical expert who can assist in the set-up and management of your entire network.

P2P LAN, or peer-to-peer local area networks are developed to allow a limited number of computers to communicate with each other and share resources such as printers, Internet access and files on separate computers. P2P networks do not utilize a network server. The devices on the network communicate directly with each other using protocols.
