This conference covered many of the technologies that are transforming the landscape in technology, education, commerce and everyday life. Important at this conference was the inclusion of discussions regarding the dangers and responsibilities, not just the benefits to society.

In March, 2002, Federal Computer Week, an online government internet resource, identified 6 major areas of emerging technologies that are changing the way the US government works. A number of these are also having an impact on the wasy we teach or will teach in the future and are discussed on this site: markup language, wireless technology and handheld technology.
