ABSTRACT 3Painter, Diane, D. The ThinkQuest Challenge: A Constructivist Learning Environment through an After-School Computer Club . techLEARNING , August, 2000. Retrieved September 21, 2002, from http://www.techlearning.com/db_area/archives/WCE/archives/painter2.htm The after-school computer club at one school is based on constructivist learning theories. The computer club members were given the challenge of creating original ThinkQuests in small groups. The researcher used methodological triangulation to collect data from multiple sources such as participant observation, interviews and document analysis. The success of the program was attributed to: students conduct research on topics of personal interest, skills are learned as needed to develop products, teachers volunteer and act as facilitators rather than teach subject content, students work cooperatively and learn from one another, learning occurs in a social atmosphere, and the students work to complete a real world challenge. |
